This week is commonly known as Holy Week. It is Jesus’s last week of His life and is filled with high expectations, joy, great sadness and hopes being raised and crushed. This last Sunday marked Palm Sunday or also known as Jesus’s triumphal Entry. Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey was the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies showing Jesus to be the Messiah, the Savior of the world. The Jews had some pre-conceived notions of what the Messiah was supposed to be and ultimately rejected Christ. They thought Jesus was going to be a conqueror of the Roman nation that oppressed them. Jesus in fact was the conqueror but of sin and death.
During small group time we went through Luke 19:30-40, Luke 9:21-25 & Philippians 2:5-8. We tried to recognize some of our pre-conceived ideas we have of God and Jesus and how this stops us from following Him completely. I encourage you to spend time with your student this week to go over what they learned. Below are a few questions to get the conversation started:
- What where some misconceptions that the Jews had of what the Messiah was going to do? How did this lead them to reject Jesus as Messiah / Savior?
- With Jesus being God and human why did He come as a humble servant? What can we learn from Jesus’s example about how to live our lives?
- How can we take up our cross and follow Jesus daily?
Have a blessed week as we celebrate Jesus death and resurrection as our Hope this week.
