Leading Like Jesus
This powerful message from 1 Peter 5:1-5 challenges us to reconsider what biblical leadership truly looks like in our daily lives. We often hear about following Jesus, but how do we lead like Him? The passage reminds us that leadership isn't reserved for church elders alone—every parent, spouse, coworker, and friend who has influence over others is called to shepherd lovingly and faithfully. The beautiful imagery of sheep and shepherds runs throughout Scripture, revealing our vulnerability and God's tender care. Sheep are defenseless, easily lost, yet incredibly valuable to their shepherd. Jesus, our Chief Shepherd, left the ninety-nine to find the one lost sheep—that's us. The restoration of Peter after his three denials is particularly moving. Instead of condemnation, Jesus asked three times, 'Do you love me?' and commissioned Peter to 'feed my sheep.' This demonstrates the heart of godly leadership: deeply relational, sacrificial, and restorative. We're called to lead not with domineering authority but with servant hearts, providing what's needed, protecting from danger, and being present in difficult times. The challenge is clear: can we say to those we influence, 'Imitate me as I imitate Christ'? That's bold, but it's the standard we're called to pursue—modeling our lives so closely after Jesus that others can see Him in us.
