Reaching Out to the Lost

What does it look like to truly have a heart for the lost? In Luke 5:27-32, we encounter one of the most unlikely stories of transformation in the Gospels. Jesus approaches Levi, a tax collector despised by his own people for betraying his nation to serve Rome, and simply says, 'Follow me.' What happens next is remarkable. Levi leaves everything behind and follows. No hesitation, no negotiation. This moment challenges us to reconsider how we see the people around us who we might have written off as too far gone, too hardened, or too comfortable in their sin to ever change. The spiritual lesson here is powerful: God moves in the hearts of the most unlikely people, and our job is to stay open to that reality. When we limit our expectations of who God can reach, we limit our own willingness to be used by him. Levi's story reminds us that beneath the surface of even the most outwardly successful or socially rejected person, there is often a soul quietly longing for something more.
